A plumbing emergency never checks the clock before it happens. This helps your plumber understand the scope of the problem when they arrive, and it’s useful documentation for your homeowner’s insurance if you need to file a claim. Note where the leak or backup started, what time it happened, and whether anything specific triggered it.
Step Four: Protect What You Can
If water is spreading across the floor, grab towels, mops, or even buckets to slow the spread while you wait. Move rugs, furniture, and personal items out of the affected area if it’s safe to do so. Water moves fast and soaks into flooring, drywall, and cabinetry quickly, so even a few minutes of containment effort can reduce the overall damage significantly.
