PRIMARY FUNCTION:

Plan layout, install and repair wiring, electrical fixtures, apparatus, and control equipment.

TYPICAL DUTIES:

  • Plan new or modified installations to minimize waste of materials, provide access for future maintenance, and avoid unsightly, hazardous, and unreliable wiring, consistent with specifications and local electrical codes.
  • Prepare sketches showing the location of wiring and equipment, or follow diagrams or blueprints, ensuring that concealed wiring is installed before completion of future walls, ceiling and flooring.
  • Measure, cut, bend, thread, assemble, and install electrical conduit, using such tools as a hacksaw, pipe threader, and conduit bender.
  • Pull wiring through conduit, assisted by a helper (at times). Splice wires by stripping insulation from terminal leads with a knife or pliers twisting or soldering wires together and applying tape or terminal caps.
  • Drill holes for wiring, using a power drill, pull or push wiring through.
  • Connect wiring to lighting fixtures and power equipment, using hand tools.
  • Install control and distribution apparatus, such as switches, relays, and circuit breaker panels, fastening them in place with screws or bolts, using hand tools and power tools.
  • Connect power cables to equipment, such as electric range or motor and install grounding leads.
  • Test continuity of circuit to ensure electrical compatibility and safety of components, using testing instruments, such as an ohmmeter, battery and buzzer, and oscilloscope.
  • Observe the functioning of installed equipment or system to determine hazards and need for adjustments, relocation, or replacement.
  • May repair faulty equipment or systems.
  • Exercise behavior that ensures personal safety and the safety of coworkers.
  • Perform additional duties as directed by supervisors.

SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE, QUALIFICATIONS & EXPERIENCE:

  • 4 Years Minimum Experience Required
  • High School Diploma or Equivalent Required
  • You must have your tools
  • OSHA Certificate is a plus
  • Journeyman License is a Plus
  • Commercial Electrical Experience is a Plus
  • Generator Service and Installation Experience a plus

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

Must be able to work easily and successfully with hands, See well (naturally or with correction), and distinguish colors. Reach for, handle, and grasp wire and hand tools. Bend, crouch, kneel, crawl, and work in small places. Lift and carry objects weighing up from 50 to 100 pounds; climb up and down ladders, scaffolds, and other objects and carry tools and equipment.
